Gilbert is a young, affluent community, the median household income is about $68,000 annually, located in the East Valley south of Mesa and northeast of Chandler. Gilbert is a family friendly suburb of Phoenix with over 50% of the households having kids and almost 70% of the households being comprised of married couples. The median age of Gilbert residents is 30 years old.

With so many young residents you would expect Gilbert to have fantastic schools, and it truly does. The Gilbert Unified School District is one of the best in Arizona, and the Gilbert public schools were the first in the nation to implement a pre-engineering curriculum for college-bound students. Gilbert students consistently perform above state and national standards.

Although Gilbert has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade ? with 800 to 1000 new residents each month, it is one of the fastest growing cities in Arizona ? it continues to maintain a small town feel. A major event, for local residents, is Gilbert Days, a three-day long festival celebrating the paving of the first road in Gilbert and featuring parades, carnivals, a rodeo and a 5K run.

Don´t let the small town atmosphere, fool you, though. Gilbert offers a range of sophisticated, upscale attractions too. The town has two lakes, several golf courses, and the Hale Centre Theatre. Located in Gilbert´s historic Heritage District and founded in 1947, Hale Centre Theatre is the longest continuously running, privately owned theater in the country. Outdoor enthusiasts, and birdwatchers particularly, love to visit The Riparian Institute. The 12-acre Institute is home to over 250 species of birds, and it has 4.5 miles of walking trails and a natural lake. Right next door, offering breathtaking views of the Riparian Institute from its grounds, is the Southeast Regional Library. The Library´s 66,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities house more than 130,000 volumes on the southeastern Phoenix area.

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, the town´s first full-service hospital, opened its doors to patients in early June of 2006 and is conveniently located right off the San Tan Freeway (Loop 202).  The recent completion of Loop 202 has led to the addition of popular retail centers, many of which are still in various construction phases. Gilbert residents can look forward to the opening of the San Tan Village, Main Street Commons, Crossroads Towne Center, Gilbert Gateway Towne Center, Gilbert Towne Square, and the enormous automall, Santan Motorplex.
